Challenge FAQ
Straight answers about teams, schedules, rights, submissions and getting a production finished.
Do I need an established production company?
No. Existing companies are welcome, but creators can also form a new team specifically for the Challenge. The event has always been a place for people to meet collaborators.
Does the production have to be horror?
The annual October Challenge remains rooted in horror, though horror can include comedy, science fiction, fantasy, psychological drama, folklore, mystery and experimental work. The larger 11th Hour Audio platform is not limited to horror.
Can I prepare before October?
You can organize people, test equipment and discuss broad possibilities. The creative and production work governed by the current rules should happen during the official window.
What if my team is small?
Scope for the team you actually have. A focused five-minute story that is finished will serve you better than an epic that never reaches the mix.
Can we use stock music and sound effects?
Yes, when the license permits the intended use and release. Keep records. Credit materials when required and never assume something found online is free to use.
Where will completed work appear?
Release plans can vary by season. Selected and submitted work may be shared through the 11th Hour Audio Podcast, Challenge pages and participating creators’ own channels.
What happens if we miss the deadline?
Finish the production anyway. It may not be eligible for every part of the current event, but the work and collaboration still matter.
